Two Jews Hit Home Runs In World Series Game

Last night in Houston, Joc Pederson of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Alex Bregman of the Astros hit home runs in the same inning of a World Series game.

That is a first for Jewish Major Leaguers.

In the top of the ninth inning, Pederson’s three-run dinger broke the game open as it staked the Dodgers to a 6-1 lead. It was Pederson’s second home run of the series.

In the bottom half, Bregman blasted a round-tripper off of Dodgers All-Star closer Kenley Jansen. It was the former LSU Tiger’s second home run of the series. In the postseason, Bregman has hit four home runs: two off of six-time All-Star Chris Sale, one off of three-time Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw and last night’s clout off of Jansen.

Pederson, 25, competed for Team Israel in the 2013 World Baseball Classic. Two years later he was an All-Star with the Dodgers on his way to a 26-home run season.

The World Series is tied, two games apiece. Game Five will be played tonight in Houston at 8:00 EST.
